Junior Warrant final returns to Crufts for first time since 2020

The final of The Kennel Club Junior Warrant Winner of the Year competition will return to Crufts on Thursday 9 March for the first time since 2020, and will be judged by well-known exhibitor Lee Cox who has achieved much success with Poodles, Clumber Spaniels, Chinese Crested and other breeds bred under the Vanitonia kennel name.

The Junior Warrant is an award for pedigree dogs from the ages of six to 18 months which have won a series of first prizes at both open and championship shows. Achieving a Junior Warrant is one of the highest levels of success for young pedigree dogs, and under normal circumstances The Kennel Club issues around 600 such awards each year.

The semi-finals of the competition took place in October at London’s biggest dog event, Discover Dogs, run by The Kennel Club, with 44 top young dogs competing for just ten places.

The finalists, which will parade at Crufts at 5.45pm in the main arena on Thursday 9 March, are as follows:

  • Border Terrier, Awbrooksky Never Back Down JW, owned by Mr R & Miss L Goddard
  • Briard, Fostebrie Just Unique JW, Mrs C Foster
  • Chihuahua (Smooth Coat), Bondor Given Arfa Chance for Akashic JW, Ms S Lyons

The Kennel Club Junior Warrant Winner of the Year competition is usually held each year and is for dogs which have gained the title of Junior Warrant during the previous year. The final will be just one of the events taking place at Crufts from 9 - 12 March 2023 at the NEC Birmingham.

Tom Mather, Crufts Chairman, said: “Crufts is delighted to be able to welcome back the Junior Warrant final to the show for the first time since 2020. Some of the young dogs competing in this event have already won champion titles and other top awards, so this promises to be a very exciting final indeed.”
