The Alan Rountree Lodge

Emblehope Estate is pleased to offer full use of the Alan Rountree Lodge to all clients. Officially opened in October 2018, the lodge was named after the late Alan Rountree in recognition of his contribution to The Kennel Club and field trials over the years. The lodge features a large sitting area, toilets and a kitchen.

Can we do our own catering?

Yes. We do allow our clients to cater their own events however we require a level two food hygiene certificate and evidence of registration with the local authority to be provided to our office at least three weeks in advance of your event.

No, we do not offer this facility.

Is there mobile signal/Wi-Fi at the estate?

Unfortunately, there is limited mobile phone coverage on the estate, and no Wi-Fi facilities at present.

Is there storage at the estate?

Unfortunately there is no on-site storage available for clients.

Can I bring my own electrical equipment?

All electrical equipment needs to be compliant with the portable appliance testing legal requirements, and must have been tested before being used in any of the estate buildings.

Can deliveries be made to the estate?

Yes, but only by prior arrangement with the gamekeeper and only if related to a venue booking.

Where can we park?

There is free on-site parking which should be used by all visitors to the estate. You will be advised which carpark to use.

Once you are on the estate, continue on the road until you reach The Kennel Club's cabin.

Directions:

From west: Continue along A69 towards A686. Turn left on the B6319 towards Newborough and Warden. After 0.5 mile, keep left past The Boatside Inn. Continue for a further 2 miles, then turn right onto B6319 towards Haydon Bridge. After 0.7 miles, turn left towards Wark and Bellingham. Continue north for 1.5 miles. At the junction, turn right onto the B6318 and then take the first left. Continue for 1.7 miles. At the junctions turn left onto the B6320. Continue on this road for 16.5 miles, through the village of Wark, towards Bellingham. Turn left towards Greenhaugh and Kielder. Continue straight for 3.2 miles. At the junction, turn right towards Otterburn. After 4 miles, take a sharp right. After 0.3 miles, turn left heading north. Follow the road straight for a further 4 miles and you will arrive at Emblehope Estate.

From north: Follow the A68 south, turning right when the road splits, continuing on the A68 towards Corbridge. Continue straight and then take a right turn, following signs towards Highgreen. Continue straight for 4.2 miles then turn left, following signs to The Comb. Continue for 4 miles, driving past Highgreen Manor and Black Middens Bastle House. Turn right and follow the road to Emblehope Estate.

From south: Continue North on the A68, following signs to Bellingham. Turn left towards Redesmouth and Bellingham. At the junction, turn left on to Penine Way. Continue straight and turn left at the junction. Turn right towards Greenhaugh and Kielder. Continue straight for 3.2 miles. At the junction, turn right towards Otterburn. After 4 miles, take a sharp right. After 0.3 miles, turn left heading north. Follow the road straight for a further 4 miles and you will arrive at Emblehope Estate.

Booking and event information

How far in advance can I book?

We are currently taking bookings through until 2027. The diary works 10 years in advance.

Can I visit the estate before making a booking?

Yes! We would be delighted to welcome you for a guided tour which can be hosted by our on-site gamekeeper. To make an appointment, please email us.

Please note that the estate is a working farm and therefore you must book an appointment with the office to visit, for your own health and safety.

What paperwork is required?

You will need to sign a booking confirmation form in advance of your event, which forms your contract. We will also require at this point firearms certificates for the guns and a copy of their insurances, along with your own liability insurance.

Upon booking, you will be invoiced a 10 bird non-refundable deposit (a 25% non-refundable deposit for non-bird days) to be paid six weeks prior to event.

Non-game days are charged at £120 (including VAT), plus £24 per hour for our gamekeepers times (an estimated 1-2 hours, allowing for de-briefing and health and safety). We would request a 25% non-refundable deposit to be paid six weeks prior to the event date.

After your event, you will be invoiced for all additional birds shot in accordance with the above price list. Runners will be invoiced one for every two birds.

When will I need to pay?

You will be invoiced prior to your event with payment due within 30 days of the date of the invoice, and if less than 30 days to your event, you will need to pay ahead of the event.

Are there any extra fees?

The price quoted at the time of booking will be the all-inclusive fee, unless you exceed the quota of birds, and an additional invoice will be raised after your event for this eventuality.

What is the duration of the hire?

Duration of hire is dependent upon the activity you wish to book. Usually hiring is done on a daily basis, but other time frames can be negotiated.

Health, safety and insurance

Do I need insurance?

Yes. All events are contractually obliged to carry public liability insurance at minimum of £2.5 million. We can provide specialist insurance. Please visit Hiscox for further information.

Do I need to complete risk assessments for my event?

Yes. Each event is very different and this is the organiser’s responsibility.

Information for the day of your event

What will happen when we arrive?

The gamekeeper will meet you at the designated rendezvous point and will complete the following steps:

  • Verify the areas hired
  • Show you the facilities available
  • Explain the emergency evacuation procedure
  • Explain the arrangements for parking - this must be adhered to at all times
How do I gain access to the estate on the day of my event?

In advance of your event, there will be discussion with the gamekeeper, to identify which part of the estate will be used for your event. You will be advised of the rendezvous point for your event. The gamekeeper will meet you at the designated rendezvous point to allow you access.

Emergencies and accidents

What should we do in an emergency?

  • Raise the alarm
  • Evacuate to the stated meeting points identified by the gamekeeper at the start of your event

  • Call the gamekeeper if they are not present with you
  • Do not re-enter any of the buildings until you are told to do so

What if there is an accident at my event?

All accidents and near misses should be reported to the gamekeeper on the day of the event.
