The Young Kennel Club (YKC) is inviting the aspiring authors amongst its membership to put pen to paper and submit a creative short story for the chance to see their work published in print.
The YKC top writer competition has returned for 2021 and YKC members are being encouraged to write a creative short story, based on the theme of ‘The Adventures Of…’. This could be a first-person story of the writer and their dog, an account of a fictional solo adventure their dog has embarked on or wherever their creativity takes them. All stories will need to include a dog and should be no longer than 800 words.
The submissions will be judged within three age groups; under 12 years, 12-18 year olds and over 18 years, with a winner from each age group. Each of the three winners will receive a £25 book voucher, whilst an overall winner will have their story published in Fetch, the YKC magazine, and will win an Amazon Kindle. The judges will be looking for adventures that spark their imagination and will also be assessing how well the theme has been incorporated.
Ben Ashcroft, YKC Chairman, said: “We are very excited to be launching the YKC top writer competition once again. We have so many talented members and we love to see them showcase their creativity outside the show ring. This year’s theme should bring out some imaginative and adventurous tales and we are really looking forward to reading them.”
The closing date for entries is 30 April 2021 and competitors can submit their entries by clicking on the link below, accompanied by their name, address, age and story title.
