The Kennel Club will once again be attending The Game Fair, which is set to take place at Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, from 26-28 July, and is offering BVA/KC/ISDS eye testing on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 July.
The canine eye tests are being offered as part of the British Veterinary Association/Kennel Club/International Sheepdog Society (BVA/KC/ISDS) Eye Test scheme and will be carried out by leading veterinary ophthalmologist, Professor Peter Bedford. Available for any breed, the testing will take place at The Kennel Club stand, priced at £50 per dog.
Charlotte McNamara, Head of Health at The Kennel Club said: “We are pleased to be offering canine eye testing at The Game Fair again this year. Detecting potential blinding and painful conditions early is vital for maintaining your dog’s health and quality of life, so we encourage any dog owner who is attending the event to take up this opportunity to have their pets’ eyes tested.”
Testing will be offered between 10am – 4pm on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 July. Appointments can be made via The Kennel Club website, by visiting our website.
In the lead-up to the event, The Kennel Club is also offering a 15% discount on its DNA Testing Services, with the promotional code GAMEFAIR15. The Kennel Club DNA Testing Services provide cost-effective access to the most impactful genetic health tests – without the need to carry out each one individually – with results that are easy to interpret and accompanied by breeding and care advice.
The Kennel Club DNA Testing Services aim to improve and protect dog health, and to promote responsible dog breeding.
The service has been uniquely developed by The Kennel Club in partnership with Weatherbys Scientific, to provide breeders with the tools needed to breed against the verified, breed-relevant diseases, but also to advance understanding of dog disease, with those who use the service contributing to canine genetic research – both through data collection and with all funds reinvested into ongoing research and health initiatives.
Test results are automatically registered on a dog’s record and available via Health Test Results Finder, allowing breeders to find health-tested mates, and puppy buyers to check if the dog they are thinking of buying has come from health-tested parents.
Charlotte McNamara added: “We hope that breeders and owners make use of The Kennel Club DNA Testing Services. As well as helping breeders to ensure the dogs they are breeding are healthy and fit for function, those who use the services will also be helping to make a positive impact on the future generation of dogs, with all data and profits reinvested into research as part of The Kennel Club’s mission for dogs.”
