Changes to HTM regulations 2025

The Royal Kennel Club has approved the following changes to the regulations for Heelwork to Music.

The following amendment to the regulation allows for dogs of 12 weeks and over to enter HTM competitions as Not for Competition.  

Amendment to Regulation L10.a

TO:

  1. Only dogs of twelve calendar months of age and over on the day of the competition are eligible for entry in Heelwork to Music classes. Only dogs of eighteen calendar months of age and over on the day of the competition are eligible for entry in Freestyle. However, competition organisers may accept Not for Competition entries at their discretion. Dogs four months and over are eligible to enter Not For Competition. Dogs 12 weeks and over are eligible to enter Not for Competition.

The regulation amendment below has been changed to ensure consistency in the timeframe for retaking the Regulations and Judging Procedure exam for Heelwork to Music.

Amendment to Regulation L17.b.(iv) 

TO: 

All judges must have attended a Regulations and Judging Procedure seminar every four five years since passing the Regulations and Judging Procedure exam. From 1 January 2023 all judges must have attended a Regulations and Judging Procedure seminar, either classroom based or online, and must have passed the examination, every five years since passing the Regulations and Judging Procedure examination.

The below amendment removes the requirement for schedules to be published 4 months prior to the competition.

Amendment to Regulation L19.a

TO:

  1. Judging contracts.
  2. Invitations to judge must be made by competition organisers in writing and they must ensure that written acceptances are received. Written acceptances must be followed by written confirmation of the appointment by the competition organisers upon which a judging contract will be deemed to have been formed. Judging contracts must be in place for Premier Heelwork to Music Competitions, and details of the appointment published, at least four calendar months before the date of the competition.

The following regulation amendment has been made to define how to win a competition.

Amendment to Regulation L(A)2. 

TO: 

In the following definition of classes all points must be gained in official classes only. A class will be won by the dog and handler partnership that has gained the most points. To count for progression the win must have been won with an overall score of at least 60% (18 marks).
