What is dog grooming?
Dog grooming is where you look after your dogs hygine. A dog grooming session typical consists of brushing, washing, drying, cutting your dogs nails and hair.

Competing in Young Kennel Club competitons
When you would like to start competing in dog grooming competitions, you can try and qualify for the Groomer of the Year Crufts final by entering one of our groomer of the year qualifiers during the year. We have two different classes for our members, both split into different age groups.
Clip/trim & strip class
Our clip/trim & strip class is for members to show skills in coat removal by stripping, trimming and/or clipping the coat, along with general health care.
Groom through class
Our groom through class is for members to show the understanding and skill required to remove all dead hair and tangles from the dog’s coat, also checking teeth, ears and nails. This is the perfect class for members just starting out in grooming competitions.
How do I take part?
- Your dog must be registered on The Kennel Club Breed register or The Kennel Club Activity register
- Make sure you read the Young Kennel Club Dog Grooming Rules
- Dogs must be over 12 months of age to take part
