Dog policies

Please make sure you read all about dog guidance for your dog/s at camp.

Dog Policies

  • All dogs attending camp must be a minimum  of 4 months old.
  • Only dogs over 6 months old will be permitted to take part in the training sessions or competitions. (Handling/Obedience/Rally/HTM/Hoopers and Good Citizen Dog Training scheme). For Agility sessions dogs must  be a minimum of 12 months old.
  • For all training sessions dogs must attend wearing the appropriate lead, collar and equipment for the activity being undertaken.  Training equipment must be used in a manner which supports the dog’s health and welfare. Note for Good Citizen Dog Training scheme sessions, legally compliant Identification is required.
  • For Agility sessions dogs must be presented wearing a flat collar. Preferably, dogs should be worked off lead and have a reliable recall.  If working a dog on lead, a non-restricting or non-tightening lead /harness is required. Camp Management have the right to refuse a dog entry to training session if it is not presented wearing  the correct equipment.
  • Dog of an unsuitable temperament MUST not be part of the training sessions, and always kept under close supervision in all areas. Failure to adhere to this WILL result in management asking for the dog to be removed from camp.
  • Bitches in season CANNOT take part in any training sessions and are not permitted around the training areas. They MUST be kept on the caravan/tent pitch and exercised on lead well away from other dogs.  If you have a bitch due in season during the camp week, please contact the YKC office before you leave home. Failure to adhere to this WILL result in management asking for the dog to be removed from camp.
  • During training sessions, rewards in the form of food or toys are permitted. Toys should be of a suitable size and non-squeaky. Individual food rewards/treats should be of a small size and type that your dog finds rewarding. Please consider their diet and the number of training sessions they will be taking part in daily and reduce/adjust accordingly. A bumbag/treat bag is very useful for some training sessions.
  • You are required to pick after your dog in all areas of the showground. Bags should be placed in the bins provided.
  • Consider your dog’s welfare throughout the camp week. There are 5 training sessions each day,  so your dog will require appropriate rest  between sessions.
